Love Languages - Physical Touch

This week we are featuring the Love Language of Physical Touch. This love language expresses and receives affection through touch, physical closeness, and other forms of physical connection.
So many feel good hormones like Oxytocin, Dopamine, and Serotonin are initiated by physical closeness. Individuals who have Physical Touch as their Primary love language experience a strong emotional satisfaction in addition to their body’s physical response to touch.

This Love Language might be demonstrated through hand holding, hugs, kisses,  massage, or cuddles on the couch. Public displays of affection are particularly meaningful to those who utilize this love language. If this is your child’s love language then things like high-fives, reading together while snuggled on the couch, rubbing their back, making up handshakes, or perhaps doing pedicure or manicure nights are all meaningful ways to demonstrate your love for them.

Something to note is that maintaining proximity and touch during moments of conflict or challenging conversations is important to those with Physical Touch as their Love Language. Without that proximity, or perhaps a hand on their leg during these moments, they could feel rejected or that love is being withheld from them more intensely than someone who has another Primary Love Language.

Be intentional with your love and recognize that sometimes going for a walk while holding hands fills someone up far more than a lavish gift might!

Not sure what your Primary love language is? Want to dig in deeper?
